The Sarasota-Manatee Chapter of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Sarasota and Manatee counties who plan to attend Florida A&M University in the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters.

We invite all eligible applicants to apply based on the following minimum eligibility requirements:

• Applicant must be a graduating senior from high school in Sarasota and Manatee counties
• Applicant must be accepted to Florida A&M University by the application deadline (No exceptions).
• All applicants must be available for an interview with the Sarasota-Manatee FAMU Alumni Scholarship committee.

Scholarships are awarded at three levels:

• Dr. Fredrick Humphries Academic Scholarship – Awarded to students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and above.
• Eddie Rainey Achievers Scholarship – Awarded to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 -3.49
• Waite Bellamy Book Award – Awarded to students with a minimum GPA of 2.85 -2.99

The selection criteria for awarding the scholarships will be based on academic achievement, financial need, community service, and extra-curricular activities participated in during the applicant’s high school years.

If selected, as a scholarship recipient, the recipients are required to participate in the following:

• Meet with the scholarship committee during winter break to update the chapter on their progress at FAMU

Please have the following documents ready before starting the application:

• Two letters of recommendation: Letters may not come from family members. It is advised that one of the recommendations comes from a teacher, student counselor, or advisor. Please make sure each letter of recommendation is signed by the person who is writing it, as well as their position/title.
• Transcript (can be mailed)
• 300-word essay: a one-page introducing yourself and why you decided to attend Florida A&M University.  Please include personal, academic, and career goals during and after graduation from Florida A&M University. Please ensure that your essay is in essay format using appropriate fonts (single space, size 10 – 12 font).
